Wozniacki Joins Bank of the West Classic Player Field

WOZNIACKI JOINS BANK OF THE WEST CLASSIC PLAYER FIELD

Former World No. 1 will be visiting Stanford for first time.

 

Stanford, California – Former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniaki has joined an already impressive list of women competing at the 2015 Bank of the West Classic being held August 3-9 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford University.

Wozniacki, winner of 23-career WTA singles titles and currently ranked No. 4 in the world, is making her first trip to Stanford and joins an already strong field which includes World No. 1 and defending champion Serena Williams, World No. 7 Agnieszka Radwanska and World No. 10 Carla Suarez Navarro.

Overall the tournament boasts 10 of the top-22 ranked players in the world including No. 12 Karolina Pliskova, World No. 13 Angelique Kerber, No. 16 Andrea Petkovic, No. 17 Elina Svitolina, No. 18 Madison Keys and No. 22 Sabine Lisicki.

In other news Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza has withdrawn from the tournament due to an adominal strain.

"Unfortunately the long European swing has taken its tole on my body,” said Muguruza. “ My abdominal strain has not fully healed and will need some weeks to get ready for the US Swing.  I am very sorry I am not able to play the Bank of the West Classic and look forward to coming back in the future."

 

The Bank of the West Classic, a Premier WTA event, features a 28-player singles draw as well as a 16-team doubles draw. The event is owned and operated by IMG and serves as the opening women's event of the Emirates Airline US Open Series.

The list of past champions of the event reads like a Who's Who of women's tennis including Serena Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Andrea Jaeger, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters.

Qualifying will be held August 1-2 and is free to the public.
