Finals
STANFORD, Calif. (www.mubadalasvc.com) – All eyes will be fixed on Stadium Court of the Taube Family Tennis Center on Sunday at 2:00 PM as 17-time Grand Slam champion and World No. 1 Serena Williams puts her 12-match Stanford winning streak on the line against World No. 8 Angelique Kerber for the Bank of the West Classic title.
For tickets contact the Bank of the West Classic ticket office at 866-WTA-TIXS (866-882-8497) or go to www.mubadalasvc.com.
Williams and Kerber will face each other for sixth time on Sunday afternoon, with Williams holding a 4-1 advantage over the 26-year-old from Poland. They last faced off in Miami earlier this year in which Williams won 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the Sony Open semifinals.
Seeking her 61st career WTA title and her third Bank of the West Classic title, the top player in the world will spend her 200th non-consecutive week at No. 1 in the WTA rankings next week, regardless of Sunday’s outcome. She has already won three titles in 2014 and she owns an incredible 60-17 lifetime record in finals matches. If Williams were to win on Sunday, she would be just six titles away from tying Billie Jean King for 6th on the all-time titles list.
Kerber is a three-time WTA title winner and will be looking to make her Bank of the West Classic debut one to remember. She defeated Coco Vandeweghe, Garbine Muguruza and Varvara Lepchenko en route to her fourth final of 2014 and will be looking to capture her first title since 2012.
