SAN JOSÉ, CA (June 19, 2018) – The official WTA acceptance list for the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic has been announced, and with three Grand Slam champions, three former World No. 1s, four former event champions and several of the world’s top young players, this year’s event will feature the best in women’s tennis.
The event will take place July 30-August 5, 2018 at San José State University. Tickets are on-sale now at www.MubadalaSVC.com.
Highlighting this year’s player field will be multiple Grand Slam winners Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka. Led by Williams’ Open Era record 23 titles, the three superstars have combined to win 30 career Grand Slam singles titles and have each held the No. 1 world ranking during their careers.
For the first time since 2011, tennis fans will have the opportunity to see all three of these superstars compete at the same event in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The player field also includes defending champion Madison Keys, as well as last year’s doubles champion and singles finalist CoCo Vandeweghe. Keys, a finalist at the 2017 US Open, is fresh off her semifinal run at the French Open and is back in the top-10 rankings.
The tournament’s 2016 singles champion, and current World No. 22, Johanna Konta is also in the field.
Another player to watch is Belgian Elise Mertens. The 2018 Australian Open semifinalist has been one of the hottest players on tour in 2018 having already won three events this year. She has seen her world-ranking jump from No. 36 at the start of the year to as high as 15. She is currently No. 17 in the world.
Fans coming to tournament will also have the opportunity to see several young Americans looking to work their way up the rankings including Danielle Collins, Allison Riske and Sachia Vickery.
This year’s Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic should be one of the most competitive in recent memory with 12 players in the field having won at least one WTA singles title. The overall strength of the 2018 player field is evident by the fact that it has combined to win 141 career WTA singles titles.
The tournament will announce four additional wildcard players in the next couple weeks – which is sure to enhance an already impressive line-up – along with the four tournament qualifiers to round out the 28-player singles field
Formerly known as the Bank of the West Classic in Palo Alto, the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic is a weeklong WTA Premier event bringing the worlds of tennis and technology together in a festival of sports and entertainment.
