SAN JOSÉ, CA (August 7, 2021) – American Danielle Collins recorded a dominating performance on Saturday night defeating qualifier Ana Konjuh 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the singles final at the 2021 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic at San Jose State University.
With her win tonight, Collins extends her match winning streak to nine and with a win tomorrow would join Ashleigh Barty, Barbora Krejcikova, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Daria Kasatkina as multiple title winners this year. Collins won her first career title in Palermo two weeks ago.
Collins will face the forementioned Kasatkina who also put in a dominating performance knocking off the tournament’s top-seed Elise Mertens 6-3, 6-2. Kasatkina already has wins at Phillip Island and St. Petersburg this year and looks to be playing some of her best tennis of the year as the summer hard court season gets underway.
The singles final is scheduled for a 4 pm start.
In doubles action, the No.2 seeded team of Darija Jurak and Andreja Klepac advance to Sunday’s 2 pm final with a 7-6, 7-6 win over the American team of Catherine McNally and Coco Vandeweghe.
They will face the top-seeded team of Gabriela Dabrowski and Olympic bronze medalist Luisa Stefani who defeated the No. 3 seeds Ellen Perez and Kveta Peschke 6-3, 4-6 [10-8] in the last match of the day. Peschke, who won the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic doubles titles in 2018 and 2019 with different partners, was attempting to win her third consecutive Bay Area doubles title.
