Wimbledon Junior Champion Granted Main Draw Wildcard

Stanford, California – 2017 Wimbledon Junior champion Claire Liu  has been granted a main draw wildcard into the 2017 Bank of the West Classic, July 31-August 6, at the Taube Family Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University.

The 17 year old from Thousand Oaks, California is the No. 1 ranked ITF Junior in the world. In addition to her Wimbledon junior title, she was also a finalist at the 2017 French Open Juniors. She has won five titles this year including the Roehampton ITF G1, Easter Bowl, $25K ITF event in Naples and the $25K ITF event in Caserta.  

This will mark Liu’s first visit to the Bank of the West Classic.

Liu joins five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova, two-time Grand Slam champion and former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka, reigning Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza, American star Madison Keys, and Bay Area native CiCi Bellis in the draw. 

The Bank of the West Classic, a Premier WTA event, features a 28-player singles draw as well as a 16-team doubles draw. The event is owned and operated by IMG and serves as the opening women's event of the US Open Series.
